MASSAGE THERAPY FAQs

Ontario has allowed for Registered Massage Therapists to treat patients for ESSENTIAL CARE ONLY.  At this time MarchDale is preparing our opening policies and procedures.

Please check our website regularly for updates and information on MarchDale opening status.  This situation is changing on a regular basis.  Rest assured we are following all guidance given by our governing body, College Registered Massage Therapist of Ontario.

If you have any questions that aren’t answered here, or you’d like clarification, please contact our management team and we will take great care of you!

These FAQ's are current to explain our new policies and procedures for treatment during Covid-19. Please read carefully.

  1. Your first visit back or first time clients will include the completion of a signed on-line comprehensive health history form, payment information (there is no longer in house payment terminal option), and an initial mandatory  COVID-19 self-assessment intake form. A preventive screening method to prevent the spread of the virus.
  2. A 24-hour notice email with a secondary mandatory self-assessment form will be sent and a completed and signed form completed prior to your appointment
  3. Upon arrival, an intake interview with your therapist will assess a mandatory verbal self-assessment protocol for COVID-19, a review of your health history, your goals for treatment, and possible outcomes for massage treatment. The only signature needed would be if consent for sensitive areas has to be signed. It will be a laminate form that your therapist can upload on your online files. They will ask  COVID-19 related questions again, discuss your goals for massage, develop a  treatment plan,  discuss possible outcomes. They may require you to sign a  sensitive area form if these areas are indicated for massage.
  4. You will be fully informed about all new COVID-19 procedures on-line, through our booking system emails and forms and through verbal communication with your therapist. Please see our links and further FAQ’s on our website for further information.
  5. IMPORTANT: At any time the therapist deems the possible treatment as unsafe through their screening then they will ask the clients to leave. It is important that if the forms have not been filled out and/or signed then the therapist will be required to ask you to leave. There are no exceptions. So please check to see if all your forms have been filled out.
  6. All therapists will check online the day before to make sure all your forms and questionnaires are complete.
  7. All interviews, assessment, home care, and treatment plan, plus treatment, are all included within your allotted treatment time.
  8. You will be fully informed about all aspects of your treatment during COVID-1. Please see the email sent of what to wear, protocol, masks, cleaning hands, etc. This also includes prior to COVID-19 how to get on the table, what to wear, what to expect during the massage, including how you will be draped during treatment; additionally, you will be reminded you can stop, change or alter treatment at any time.
  9. 9. During the massage your therapist will check in periodically on how you’re feeling, it is advised during the COVID-19 pandemic to reduce conversation to pertinent questions only, how the pressure is and whether you are comfortable. It is also helpful if you tell us immediately if there’s anything we can do to make your experience more comfortable or enjoyable, ie: pressure change, temperature change, draping change, etc.  It helps us make your treatment the best experience possible.
  10. Once your treatment has come to an end, you will have prior knowledge of how to proceed to make your stay safe. You will have time to quietly regroup and dress.  Your therapist will inform you of the location to safely have time to speak with you about a treatment plan and goals for subsequent treatments, along with homecare suggestions to help prolong the effects of your massage between visits. We have created a safe place to protect both yourself and your therapist during this time. It is advised that all parties keep their PPE face masks on until it is safe to remove them. For the clients, we recommend removing your mask after exiting the building.

Rest assured we are following all guidance given by our governing bodies, College Registered Massage Therapists of Ontario, and The Registered Massage Therapists’ Association of Ontario.

All clients will be asked to wait in their car until their therapist indicates they are ready for your appointment. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to our appointment. Your therapist will go outside, introduce themselves aloud for the first time, and occasional clients and call out your first name only. Upon recognition, you’ll be asked to follow your therapist in maintaining the social distancing rule of 6 feet. Make sure you are wearing your mask. If you have forgotten your mask please let your therapist know before entering. We will gladly supply you with a mask at a cost for our massage.

When you enter you will be asked to use the hand sanitizer inside the entrance. You will be asked to remove your shoes in the area provided. You will then go to the front reception desk where the therapist will greet you from the other side of the protective plexiglass provided. There your therapist will conduct the assessment screening protocol for COVID-19. If your therapist feels that you have not passed the screening test they will ask you to leave and inform you to call telehealth and advise you to go get testing for COVID-19  immediately. If you have any symptoms you will be asked to leave. All appointments will be charged.

If you’re running late please take the time to let us know by calling our clinic (613-663-1854). Only if we answer and we believe that the assessment protocol can be successfully done safely with the arrival time you gave us and without going against the social distancing rule then you will be asked to come ahead. If we do not answer then you will be asked to leave and your appointment charged inn full. If we answer and you give us an arrival time if you are late again we will ask you to leave and you will be charged in full for your appointment. We can not stress how important it is to maintain a safe social distance in a clinic atmosphere and we hope that you understand our policies. If inclement weather is due please allow ample time for travel to arrive safely and in enough time allotted for your appointment.

Your treatment time is reserved just for you; should you be late we regrettably are not able to accommodate during COVID-19 or extend your treatment. Additionally, you will be charged for the entire treatment time regardless of when the treatment starts.

Please note: if you are late and are allowed to proceed there will still be a self-assessment COVID-19 questionnaire as well as an intake and assessment within the time remaining, this is to ensure the safest treatment for you each session.

During most massages you will be fully covered by a sheet so what you wear is whatever you are comfortable with; ideally, it is easiest for your therapist to work directly on your skin,  however, we are happy to accommodate your comfort should you prefer we work through your clothes or the sheet. Your therapist will confirm your needs prior to treatment.

If you are coming for sports treatment, hip, groin, pelvis, or abdominal treatment it is helpful to bring shorts and a tank top/t-shirt, although it is not necessary.

To accommodate the removal of a top sheet due to COVID-19 we welcome you to bring a light fleece blanket (twin size is perfect), your personal thermaphor (heating pad), or heating blanket that must be placed into the bag you brought in with you. Anything left behind will be removed or recycled after your massage.

Now more than ever we have a mandatory pre-screening self-assessment protocol for our clients to fill out to ensure the safety of you, our therapists, and our community. This new protocol is mandatory and in order to receive a massage all forms must be filled out an interview screening conducted or you will be turned away from your appointment.

RMTs are also, required by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario to have patients discuss and sign a sensitive areas treatment form at the onset of each new treatment plan (should treatment be indicated within the sensitive areas), and to sign and date at each session of that treatment plan. It is a requirement so you know exactly what to expect with the treatment of these potentially sensitive areas.

If you have questions about this please feel free to ask us.

Due to COVID-19 if you arrive late for your appointment we are on a strict social distancing schedule and you will be asked to leave. It is a great idea to try to arrive around 15 minutes early for your treatment.  Your treatment time is reserved just for you; should you be late we regrettably are not able to extend your treatment. Additionally, you will be charged for the entire treatment time regardless of when the treatment starts.

Please note: if you are late there will still be an intake and assessment within the time remaining, this is to ensure the safest treatment for you each session.
